  • The legal requirement mandates a minimum of 20 days of annual privilege/earned leave in the Czech Republic.
  • The entitlement to annual vacation applies from January to December each year.
  • Additionally, if employees do not utilize all of their allotted earned leave within the year, some companies may allow them to carry over unused days to the following year.

Maternity Leave in the Czech Republic

  • According to legal regulations, maternity leave in the Czech Republic includes a minimum duration of 28 weeks.
  • Expectant mothers can begin their maternity leave between six to eight weeks prior delivery date. It can be for 20 to 22 weeks after giving birth.
  • However, it is mandatory to take leave for a minimum of 14 weeks, with at least six weeks following childbirth.
  • In case of multiple births, the statutory maternity leave is extended up to 37 weeks. 
  • Additionally, starting from the seventh week after childbirth, either parent can take the leave.

Parental Leave in the Czech Republic

  • Parental leave in the Czech Republic allows both parents to take time off from work until the child reaches three years of age. 
  • It is an individual entitlement, meaning that each parent has the right to take it, but only one parent can utilize the benefit at a time. 
  • The duration and amount of parental benefit is contingent upon the age of the child. 
  • Parents can choose from various options -some text
    • Longest option - leave until the child turns 48 months old
    • Shortest option - leave until the child is 12 months old
  • Note that this choice is distinct from the entitlement to parental leave itself. 

Paternity Leave in the Czech Republic

  • Paternity leave in the Czech Republic typically lasts for a maximum of two weeks. 
  • However, it may differ from company to company based on their leave policies.
