- Workweek hours cannot be less than 36 hours unless it is in a special case.
- Overtime is complex and varies by employee, but a worker can’t work more than 12 hours a day.
- Employees must be advised of changes in their schedule 5 days ahead of time.
- Serbia has strict laws around rest periods during the day and between shifts.
- Employers cannot allow personal data to be viewable by third parties.
- Employees keep their jobs when they join the military, are incarcerated, or are assigned to work abroad.
Serbia tax rate and contributions
Employee income tax:
- The Serbia income tax rate for employees ranges between 10-20% based on how much they make.
Employer contributions:
- 11.5% - Pension and disability
- 5.15% - Health insurance
Employee contributions:
- 14% - Pension and disability
- 5.15% - Health insurance
- 0.75% - Unemployment insurance
Paid leave
- Serbia recognizes 7 paid public holidays.
- The minimum paid leave is 20 days per year and employees can take additional unpaid leave with an employer’s approval.
- Non-work-related sick leave is up to 30 days and paid at 65% of normal wages over the past 12 months. Work-related sick leave is for 30 days at 100% of normal wages.
- Maternity leave is paid by the government. It includes 45 days of leave before birth and 3 months of leave after. Employees have the option of taking up to 1 year of childcare leave following maternity leave.
- There are no laws around paternity leave, but sometimes it can be used in place of maternity leave. It depends on the situation and there are a lot of rules around how to do this.
- Additional types of leave include:
